The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) says it needs 13,000 new places for the reception of asylum seekers before the end of 2022.
The COA then expects to have to offer a reception place to a total of 42,000 asylum seekers. Now there are still 36,000, but this includes 7,000 places at temporary locations such as halls and boats that were taken into use in the autumn because the registration location in Ter Apel was more than full.
Together, this will provide 13,000 new places needed, COA writes in its latest forecast. Of these, 9,000 must be available before July 1.
Conditions
A condition is also that almost all existing regular locations remain open or are extended. This also concerns the locations for which the agreement with the municipality expires next year.
In addition, the 12,000 status holders who are currently occupying a shelter must have found shelter through a municipality before 1 July. In view of the housing shortage and the experience of the past year, this is a difficult task. For 7,000 status holders, the period within which they must be offered a home has already expired.
In addition, staff must also be recruited to supervise asylum seekers, says the COA. In view of the tight labor market, this will also be quite a challenge.
