1300 police officers in action in drug raids in Leipzig and Dresden

Dresden / Leipzig – The State Criminal Police Office of Saxony has a large-scale on Wednesday morning Raid in Dresden and Leipzig started.

Hundreds of police officers searched numerous buildings on suspicion of gang trafficking in narcotics, said police spokesman Tom Bernhardt on Wednesday morning.
There are also individual searches outside of the two cities, and the police initially did not want to provide any information about the locations.

UPDATE, 8 a.m.: Emergency services in the east of Leipzig on the move
As the LKA reported on Wednesday morning, the raid was due to joint investigations by the public prosecutor’s offices in Dresden and Leipzig, the joint drug investigation groups, the customs investigation department, the LKA itself and the local criminal police inspections from summer 2020.
“In the course of the investigation, several suspects were made known and structures in the area of gang-like trading with narcotics were uncovered,” said a statement from the LKA.
On Wednesday, apartments and other properties were searched, existing arrest warrants were carried out, assets were secured and evidence was seized.
Special police units were deployed at several objects, which were supported by appropriate forces from other federal states and by the federal police.
In Leipzig, the raid focused, among other things, on the east of the city: For example, emergency services were on the move in Hildegardstrasse, Idastrasse and Torgauer Strasse.

UPDATE, 9.30 a.m.: A total of 1,300 police officers on duty
During the raids in Dresden and Leipzig a total of 1,300 police officers were deployed on Wednesday, according to Petric Kleine (58), head of the State Criminal Police Office of Saxony. Among them were six special police units, including the GSG 9 unit of the federal police. During the day, 25 objects each in Leipzig and Dresden were to be examined, as well as buildings in Thuringia, Berlin and federal states bordering on Saxony.
As of Wednesday, 9 a.m., 11 people have been arrested for whom an arrest warrant had already been issued. Numerous other suspects from all possible nations were examined.
“We are carrying out a complex strike against dealer structures in the drug milieu throughout Saxony,” said LKA boss Kleine about the operation.

UPDATE, 2:30 p.m .: 11 arrests and 50 search warrants
The police reported the first results of the raids on Wednesday afternoon. Since the early hours of the morning, 50 search warrants and 11 arrest warrants have been implemented. 11 suspects were arrested on the basis of existing arrest warrants, five in Dresden, five in Leipzig and one in Berlin. These are men between the ages of 25 and 41. Seven arrested persons have German citizenship, two Ukrainian, one Iraqi and one German / Iraqi citizen.
In addition to narcotics, cash, vehicles and a yacht were also secured by the emergency services. The measures and the investigations are ongoing.
