13-Year-Old Boy Stabbed at Monhagen High School in Middletown, New York – Latest School Violence Incident in Orange County

A 13-year-old boy was stabbed multiple times by another student of the same age at Monhagen High School in Middletown, New York’s Orange Countyyesterday at the beginning of the day.

Police responded to an assault at the school around 7:38 a.m. Wednesday and upon arrival found the victim who had been stabbed multiple times. The minor was hospitalized in stable condition after being rushed to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.

A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of another 13-year-old student in relation to the incident, reported Fox News. None of those involved in the fight were identified, due to being minors. Students said that The incident occurred in the 8th grade wing.

“What happened today is not right,” reflected Amy Creeden, superintendent of schools in Middletown, the county’s most populous city. “It is very worrying. It’s very disturbing. My heart hurts”.

The incident led to the closure of the campus yesterday. Sports practices and competitions were also canceled for the rest of the day.

Parents rushed to the school to pick up their children for early dismissal. Most of the students were released before noon.

The school said it completed a full physical check of the entire high school campus.

Young people are protagonists in armed violence in New York as victims and perpetratorsparticularly shootings and knife attacks, in and around schools.

Last week in NYC there was three students stabbed in 24 hours in fights inside their schools early in the morning, including one female victim. In October A 13-year-old boy was stabbed to death by a 14-year-old boy after leaving school aboard a MTA public bus in Staten Island.

This school year, through Dec. 6, police and security officers seized 1,088 knives and 260 box cutters in NYC, surpassing the 1,004 and 252 respectively seized during the same period last year, according to data from the NYPD School Safety Division.

Seizures of knives and other knives have increased 7% this school year in NYC, and could be more because the number of metal detectors and security officers has decreased.

In NYC only 79 of 1,500 school buildings have permanent metal detectors. There are also seven roving scanners on wheels, according to the last count known to the school safety officers union.
