NEW JERSEY — An investigation is underway in New Jersey after a 13-year-old boy was shot in broad daylight Wednesday in Newark, city officials said.

The shooting took place around 10:43 a.m. in the 100 block of Leslie Street, said Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, adding that police later received reports that a 13-year-old boy had been shot. .

The boy was taken to University Hospital in stable condition, Fragé said.

The shooting prompted a brief lockdown of the Bragaw Avenue school, which is near the area of ​​the shooting, Fragé said.

An investigation is ongoing.
