13-Year-Old Boy Dies After Shooting at Staten Island Playground, 17-Year-Old Arrested

Authorities announced Tuesday that a 13-year-old boy declared brain dead has died after being shot in the head at a Staten Island playground Friday afternoon. The case was declared by the NYPD as a homicide investigation.

The victim, identified as Jamoure Harrell, who lived in that county, died on Sunday from his injuries, the uniformed added.

On Tuesday morning, members of the regional fugitive task force arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the Harrell death, sources told NBC 4. His identity will not be released because state law prohibits disclosure. of the names of suspected minors.

Harrell was shot mid-afternoon on Friday, just before 4:00 p.m., in Dr. Maggie Howard Playgroundnear Stapleton Houses in Warren Street y Gordon Streetauthorities said.

The shooting happened a block from his school, IS 49, when the teen was hanging out with a group of friends after school, police said.

“We’re just praying that he recovers. That’s it right now. Being there for the family and praying that he recovers,” Penn said. “Very energetic kid. Just having fun on a beautiful day like a 13 year old does.”

It was unclear if he was the intended target of the shooting or an innocent victim. No further details have been released about the youth in custody or his relationship with the victim.
