The Government of Slovakia at an extraordinary online meeting decided to transfer 13 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
This was stated by Prime Minister Eduard Geger at a press conference on Friday, reports “European Truth”.
Geger said at a briefing that the government had unanimously approved an agreement on the donation of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine and would provide the aircraft jointly with Poland.
“Today, the government unanimously approved an international agreement, on the basis of which it was decided to provide Ukraine with MiGs and part of the Kub air defense system,” Aktuality quoted Geger as saying.
He also emphasized that the fighters would serve to protect the Ukrainians, and not to use planes for attack.
Slovakia should receive 900 million euros in compensation from the allies for the fighters.
Slovakia announced its decision a day after Polish President Andrzej Duda announced the transfer of four MiG-29s to Ukraine in the coming days.
Thus, two NATO states have already publicly promised to provide combat aircraft to Ukraine.
The United States, after the decision of Poland, said that it still does not plan to send American F-16 aircraft to Ukraine.
