The national team for mixed martial arts recorded an exceptional start during the first day of their participation in the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Championship, where the people of the country presented a strong performance and unique skills, which enabled them to achieve victories and win 13 medals.
The tournament began yesterday, and will continue until December 16, at the Khalifa City Sports Hall in Manama.
The tournament began its activities with competitions in the categories of cubs B (14-15 years) and buds C (12-13 years), with the participation of 238 male and female players, representing 16 countries.
Champion Saif Al Balushi succeeded in making a strong start for the team, as he won first place in the 40 kg junior category, after defeating Bahraini Saud Ibrahim, during an enthusiastic match that lasted two minutes and 43 seconds.
The national team players quickly achieved successive victories, achieving advanced positions and enhancing the country’s medal tally.
Abdullah Al-Darmaki won silver in the cubs category B, weighing 44 kg, Rakan Al-Yamahi and Maad Al-Hosani won gold and bronze in the buds category C, weighing 34 kg, respectively, and Ali Muhammad Al-Najjar won gold in the buds category C, weight 40 kg.
Hamdan Mohammed Al-Najjar and Zayed Al-Hammadi also excelled and dominated the 48 kg Junior B category, winning gold and silver medals, respectively.
Salem Al-Hamoud won the gold in the junior category, weighing 77.1 kg, while Ghala Al-Hammadi won the gold in the junior category, weighing 44 kg.
Thani Al Muhairi won gold in the 62 kg junior category, while Abdullah Andes won silver in the same category.
Youssef Al Khoury won silver in the 67 kg Junior B category, and Afraa Al Mutawa added gold in the 48 kg Junior B category to the series of achievements.
Mohammed Al Hosani, a member of the Mixed Martial Arts Committee at the Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, said: “Our heroes demonstrated firm determination and outstanding skills, which reflects their constant pursuit of excellence and their high fighting spirit, and is in line with our commitment to advancing the sport in the country.
