2. Details of Maryland judge’s murder case revealed

One year after Washington County, Maryland, Judge Wilkinson was murdered in his driveway, more information has been released about the cause of the murder and the hunt for his killer.

Just before 8 pm on October 19, 2023, 52-year-old Maryland Circuit Court Judge Andrew Wilkinson was found with a gunshot wound in front of his home in Hagerstown.

Wilkinson’s wife discovered him and called 911, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

That night, criminal investigators narrowed down their search for the suspect based on Wilkinson’s court schedule that day and the neighbor’s Ring doorbell camera footage. Wilkinson was presiding over a hearing on the day of the shooting, a divorce proceeding for an estranged couple. The murderer was revealed to be the husband in the suit, who was dissatisfied with the verdict and decided to take revenge. On October 21, police discovered the murderer’s SUV and a Glock 20-round magazine near the driver’s seat. After several days of searching, a Maryland State Police search team discovered the killer’s body on October 26, and the medical examiner determined that he had shot himself.

Wilkinson, who was sworn in as a circuit court judge in 2020, graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1994 and received his law degree from Emory University School of Law in 1997 before becoming a Washington County Circuit Court law clerk. The circuit court judge is a longtime resident of Hagerstown and active in the community.
