On a rainy Friday evening, GKS Katowice faced Widzew Łódź at Bukowa Street in the 8th round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. In recent years, the teams have competed at the 2nd league and 1st league levels, so it was time for an Ekstraklasa clash. There was one change in the Katowice line-up. Sebastian Bergier filled the vacancy left by the absent Adam Zrel’ák. The rain made the match very dynamic. In the first minutes, our defenders tried, but the shots of Grzegorz Rogala and Marcin Wasielewski were blocked by Widzew’s defenders. The opponent delivered an effective blow in the 13th minute of the match. Hilary Gong threw into the penalty area, the ball bounced off Lukas Klemenz and surprised Arkadiusz Jędrych and Dawid Kudła. Imad Rondić was the best at this, directing the ball towards the goal.
In the 24th minute, it was dangerous again after a cross from Widzew from the left sector. We managed to block three shots from the opponent and avert the danger. However, the end of the first half belonged to the hosts. In the 38th minute, Mateusz Kowalczyk threw the ball into the penalty area. After Sebastian Bergier played it, Oskar Repka found himself in an ideal situation. He struck strongly from a few meters and tied the score. Coach Górak’s team followed up. In the 42nd minute, we came out with the action after the opponent’s corner kick. The ball ended up in the right sector, where Adrian Błąd passed it into the penalty area to Wasielewski. He cleverly misled the defender and found himself in an ideal place to shoot. He struck confidently and the ball bounced off the defender, which is what the opponent’s goals go into.
The score before the break did not change. We returned to the second half with the score 2:1 for GieKSa. Bergier did well in front of the penalty area right from the start, his shot flew over the crossbar of Rafał Gikiewicz’s goal. In the 73rd minute, Widzew had a good opportunity after a corner kick. Juljan Shehu reached the high ball, but the ball after his shot flew over the crossbar of the goal guarded by Kudła. A moment later, Bartosz Nowak struck centimeters from the opponent’s goal post. Around the 75th minute, a real downpour at Bukowa. Borja Galán was active at the very end, appearing on the pitch in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, in the 91st minute, Jakub Łukowski equalized the score by taking advantage of the confusion at the 16-meter mark. The score did not change.
