125th Anniversary Norton 961 Commando Limited Edition “Manx” Motorcycle

Roadster

In the 125 years of Norton, there was one episode that will remain etched in motorcycle history forever: the Manx. One of the most legendary racing motorcycles there is. Time like legend is now illustrated on this limited series of 961 Commando. With a tribute color and a few artifacts, the Englishwoman relives great moments from her sporting past.

A beautiful gray comes to take over this Commando. But not in the same definition as the standard “Manx Platinum” gray color. Here, only the tank receives this color, without edging, without embellishments, without artifice, in order to be as pure as possible and to recall this particularly emblematic part on the Manx of yesteryear.

To support this posture, quite a few elements are painted black: the rear shell, the sides under the saddle, the Öhlins inverted fork and its radial brake caliper supports, the toe clips, and a good part of the motor.
But Norton couldn’t resist leaving chrome on the rims, side covers, exhaust line and cylinder head cover.
The Commando LE Manx also receives a seat cowl with a 125th anniversary emblem as well as a carbon wind screen and chain guard.

This Commando does not push its heritage so far as to adopt a single-cylinder. Its heart is still the air-cooled parallel twin with 77 horsepower. Mechanics, chassis and dynamics are the same as those of the Commando Café-Racer.

Why is the Manx so important to Norton? With its 350 and 500 versions, the bike has won the Tourist Trophy 13 times. But above all, it was so competitive that it was produced from 1937 to 1962 and participated in competitions until 1970. The one which was initially called “International Racing Model” also won the Bol d’or 7 times, won a number crazy about records and also won world championship titles in GP.

If you are thinking of going further than offering yourself one of the 125 copies of this Norton 961 Commando Limited Edition “Manx”, it is definitely possible to make a real Manx. In fact, a certain Andy Molnar bought the rights a few years ago to remanufacture Manx pieces. All necessary parts can be purchased from Manx.co.uk. From the engine to the Featherbed frame to the carburetor, everything is available.
