120 Gold Bars Found on Train in Lucerne and Handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross

120 gold bars found in 2019 in a package left on a train in Lucerne for the International Committee of the Red Cross will be handed over to the ICRC. This was reported by the prosecutor’s office of Lucerne.

During the investigation, it was not possible to establish the owner of the ingots with a total weight of more than 3.7 kg, although they even advertised in the newspaper, but nothing indicates that a criminal story is behind the gold, the department noted. The Lucerne prosecutor’s office proceeds from the fact that no crime has been committed, the case is closed.

In October 2019, the conductor of a train from St. Gallen to Lucerne found a white bag in the carriage.

“On the packaging, among other things, the recipient of the valuables was indicated – the ICRC. The package contained 120 gold bars (total weight of gold 3.732 kg), which were marked with a logo and serial numbers,” the department said.

Since the gold was in a parcel addressed to the ICRC, the find is handed over to him as the original recipient.

The ICRC, headquartered in Geneva, thanked for “this generous contribution” to the activities of the organization, stressing, however, that they prefer “more classical ways to receive donations.”
