Fruit processing from processors’ own gardens will reach 12 percent of the entire supply of raw materials in 2023, reports the Ministry of Health. From a total of 91,550 tons of canned fruit production of 112 factories in the country, supplies from own areas are 10,950 tons. Bulgarian producers provided the industry with 41,200 tons, which is more than half (45%) of the total delivered production, which is 91,550 tons. Imports from third countries are 23 percent. The largest is peaches – 10,940 tons.
The most in number are the enterprises that process plums, raspberries and strawberries – 40, and the fewest are peach processors – 19.
Canneries do not have plantings of peaches, apricots, cherries and raspberries. They mainly bet on cherries and apples.
The processors of vegetables in the country there are 129. Only 3% of the vegetables used are the canneries’ own production. They grow the most pepper – 1080 tons, gherkins 310 tons, other vegetables – 520 tons. The processors’ own vegetable production totaled 2,800 tons, out of a total of 106,730 tons of raw material used.
85 percent (90,640 tons) of the total volume processed by the industry (106,730 tons) was supplied by Bulgarian producers. The most invested are tomatoes 36,160 tons, pepper 25,680 tons, potatoes 6,660 tons. The import of vegetables for processing from the EC is 8%, and from third countries 2%.
The finished product of processed fruits realized in the country is 36.9 thousand tons.
Shipments to the EU are 28.9 thousand tons, exports to third countries are 6.1 thousand tons. The quantities of fruit
production in stock as of 31.12.2023 and others (marriage) is 27.8 thousand tons.
The finished product of processed vegetables realized in Bulgaria is 54.7 thousand tons,
shipments to the EU are 18.8 thousand tons, and exports to third countries are 7.3 thousand tons. The quantity of
vegetable production in storage and others (marriage) is 30.6 thousand tons.
