12 Nurses at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Virginia Become Pregnant Together

Jakarta

An unusual sight seen at the Riverside Regional Medical Center hospital, Virginia, United States. Not something strange or negative but surprising and amazed. The reason is that many workers there, most of whom are nurses, look pregnant. Unmitigated, the number is up to 12 people.

A nurse practitioner, 10 licensed nurses, and a unit secretary at Riverside Regional Medical Center became pregnant at the same time. Not only that, they all work together in the NICU or intensive care room for newborns. This is a historic moment that is welcomed with joy.

“This is the most (pregnant labor) ever in a single unit in history. Five people are first time mothers,” said a hospital representative told Today.

Of the 12 women currently pregnant, two have already given birth while the other is due this year. Four babies will be born in July, three in August, one in September and two in October and November.

According to one of the nurses, being pregnant together made them feel stronger because they got support from each other. “We all feel so supported and we’re never worried too much if anyone needs anything. We’re all here to step in and help if anyone needs rest or a doctor’s appointment,” said Haley Bradshaw.

Pregnancy didn’t hinder work but made them more solid as a team. In addition, being pregnant together makes the friendship of the nurses even stronger. “We work better as a team because we know what we’re here for,” said Jackie Cox, who is pregnant with her fifth child.

Both Haley and Jackie plan to keep working until they are due to give birth. They don’t seem to need to wait for the birth at home because it’s better if the day of delivery happens at work. Haley herself has given birth to her first child at the hospital.

Apart from fellow nurses, the pregnancy with 12 hospital workers also surprised the patients. Not a few of them realized and reacted when they saw many pregnant nurses. “They laughed with us,” Haley said.
