12 investment projects had the green light from the SEA in Ñuble in 2023 – La Discusión

With the beginning of 2024 quickly approaching, at the regional level, balances of the year’s efforts are beginning to be made, one of them being related to the investments that arrived in the Ñuble region.

In this sense, the Seremi of Economy, Development and Tourism has announced that the investment projects that have been approved through the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA) during this year amount to 12, which imply a total investment of 247 million dollars. The head of the regional portfolio, Erick Solo de Zaldívar, the governor of Ñuble, Oscar Crisóstomo and the president of the Chilean Chamber of Construction of Chillán, Ricardo Salman, referred to this.

Economic boost for Ñuble

For the Minister of Economy, these regional investments “are good news, since this investment of 247 million dollars will have an impact in terms of job creation for our region, which is a priority for our Government. Among the approved projects, key areas for the regional economy stand out, such as the real estate sector, tourism and non-conventional renewable energies. This shows that we have charted the right path by promoting key and emerging sectors of regional development.”

At the same time, he added that “another aspect of great importance is the generation of projects that encourage the attraction of investments, as is the case of the Montenegro – Lucero Transmission Line project. This initiative will be key to promoting the growth of development poles in our region, providing investment opportunities and contributing to the economic progress of our community.”

Finally, he mentioned that “we will continue working to attract larger investments. During the year 2024, our Government will focus mainly on promoting economic growth, promoting productive development and promoting job creation. These will be our main priorities, and we will dedicate all our efforts to achieve positive results in these areas,” concluded Solo de Zaldívar.

Regional impact

Regarding the impact that these investments mean for Ñuble, the Regional Governor, Oscar Crisóstomo, pointed out that “the arrival of new projects in the region is always good news, because it means that we are positioning ourselves as an investment area; but also attracting development to it, which materializes in opportunities for our inhabitants. In this sense, we talk about employment, productive diversification, human capital management, activation of services, everything that the installation of new companies entails. However, it also makes us consider more urgently the need to have the appropriate infrastructure that allows them to be maintained, expand and also allow new companies to arrive in our territory, that is, advance in energy transmission, have an airport , increase digital connectivity, and all basic conditions to continue being an attractive region and for the figures we see today, which are positive, to increase over time.”

From the Chilean Chamber of Construction of Ñuble, its president, Ricardo Salman, pointed out that “it is notable that in Ñuble we have managed to approve a higher amount of investments this year through the SEA compared to last year. This achievement becomes more relevant amid the difficult economic circumstances at both the regional and national levels, added to the limitations in the energy transmission infrastructure.”

He also referred to the projects that had the green light from the SEA within 2023, stating that “among the approved projects, initiatives in the energy, housing and tourism sectors stand out. Among them, a coal-to-biomass conversion plant and a transmission line stand out. All these projects will contribute significantly to the progress of the region. However, a notable takeoff in regional activity and in project approval by the Environmental Assessment Service will be evident once the Short Law is approved to address energy transmission problems in the Ñuble region. This will allow us to advance numerous projects in the agricultural and industrial fields, favoring the diversification of our productive matrix.”

Finally, he pointed out that “in addition, it is crucial to dispel the uncertainty generated by the discussion of the reforms to continue advancing in investment, progress and job creation for the families of Ñuble. “We need an environment that prioritizes and strengthens investment, recognizing the importance that the President of the Republic and the Ministers give to this aspect.”
