12 injured earthquake flown over by Dutch air force

For this deployment, the cargo hold of the transport aircraft has been converted and equipped with medical facilities. On board, the victims are helped by specialists from the Center for Man and Aviation, part of the Royal Netherlands Air Force.

Two doctors and six nurses are present during the flights. The first medical evacuation flight took place yesterday. In addition, 6 injured people and 33 family members were flown from the stricken town of Adiyaman to a hospital in the coastal city of Antalya.

The ‘flying ambulance’ then flew on to Incirlik to take another 6 injured people and 36 family members to a hospital in the capital Ankara.

‘Help is much appreciated’

Detacehemtskommandant Lieutenant Colonel Maurice Schonk is satisfied with the result. “The help is very much appreciated by the population,” he says.

The Dutch aircraft will still be active in Turkey for the next two weeks to carry out medical evacuation flights.
