The management of the Mediterranean Film Festival in Tetouan announced the films participating in the official competition for the twenty-eighth session, which will be held between March 3 and March 10, after selecting 12 films from among 350 nominations from various countries of the Mediterranean basin.
The festival management also announced the arbitration committees for the competition categories in the official competition of the festival, as the jury of the official competition for the feature film category included the Turkish director Zaki Demirkobuz as president, the membership of the Spanish actress Anna Ecobalzita, the Egyptian director and screenwriter Hala Khalil, and the French film critic and writer Nada. Al-Azhari, Valerio Carando, Italian professor of visual arts history.
The list of participating films includes: “Darkness” by Serbian director Dushan Milish, “Alam” by Palestinian director Firas Khoury, “Red Fish” by Moroccan director Abdel Salam Al-Kalaei, “Exodus” by Syrian director Sudad Kaadan, and “Ramona” by Spanish director Andrea Bagni. And “A Safe Place” by the Croatian director Juraj Lerotic, and “Carnation” by the Turkish director Bakir Bulbul, and “The Dam” by the Lebanese director Ali Shri, and “Summer in Bajaad” by the Moroccan director Omar Mall Al-Doueira, and “September” by the Italian director Julia Louis Stekrowalt. And “On Entering” by the Spanish director Juan Sebastian Vasquez Alejandro Rojas, and “Blessing of the Bride” by the Lebanese director Bassem Breish.
As for the films included in the “Heartbeat” section, you will know the participation of: “Mediterranean Fever” by Palestinian director Maha Hajj, “The Island of Forgiveness” by Tunisian director Reda Bahi, “The Eight Mountains” by Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Fat Croeningen from Belgium, and “The Gardens”. The Suspended” by Iraqi director Ahmed Yassin Al Darraji, and “The Worst Elements” by Romain Jerry and Lise Acoca from France.
And in honor of the spirit of the Moroccan writer, screenwriter and critic, Mustafa El-Masnaoui, who died in 2015, the festival management named the Criticism Committee after him, which is composed, in this year’s session, of Safaa El-Leithy, the Egyptian critic and editor, Lourdes Blasios, critic and president of the Association of Film Writers in Andalusia, Spain, and Ahmed Boughaba, Moroccan film critic and scriptwriter.
As for the festival’s professional jury, it consists of producer and former director of the Moroccan Film Center Sarim Al Fassi Al-Fihri, Spanish director and actress Lydia Zimmerman, French producer and screenwriter Yasmina Nini Foucon, and Egyptian actor and director of photography Jalal Al Zaki.
