Unusual ‘cola love’… ‘Red button’ installed on office desk
Enjoy Diet Coke as a reward for abstinence… Biden took office and eliminated it.
Will there be a ‘red button’ on the desk of the US President‘s office again?
President-elect Donald Trump (Republican), who defeated Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris to re-enter the White House in the US presidential election held on the 5th (local time), was famous for his unusual love of cola during his last term in office.
A ‘red button’ to request a Coke was installed on the President’s desk in the White House (Resolute desk).
When he presses the red button, a White House employee comes into the office with a glass of cold Coke. Trump is known to have consumed about 12 glasses of cola a day while in the White House.
News of the ‘red button’ came out in April 2017, about three months after he took office. This is during Trump’s interview with the media ahead of his 100th day in office.
In media interviews at the time, it was often explained that Trump had pressed the ‘coke-button’. The red button is also mentioned in an interview with Reuters where he made a bombshell statement that Korea should bear the cost of the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense system.
In an interview with the British daily Financial Times (FT), a reporter jokingly asked, ‘Is (this button) a nuclear button?’ Trump responded, “No, everyone thinks that way,” and pressed the button to have Coke brought to him.
The Hill, a U.S. political media outlet, also reported that the red button on the desk in the White House Oval Office is not for launching nuclear weapons, but is for the president to use when he wants to drink cola.
‘Trump’s Coke’ is not specifically regular Coke, but ‘Diet Coke’ (low-calorie cola).
In 2012, he posted on Twitter (now known as However, recently, he was seen drinking regular cola, which became a hot topic on social media.
So why does Trump drink cola like this? His ‘love of cola’ is known as ‘compensation for abstaining from alcohol.’ Many say that Trump enjoys drinking based on his appearance and words and actions, but he does not drink alcohol at all.
Trump’s strict abstinence from alcohol is said to be due to his tragic family history. Trump’s older brother, Fred, suffered from alcoholism and died in 1981 at the age of 43.
In the past, Trump told reporters, “I had an older brother named Fred who was the most handsome and personable person in the world, but he had a drinking problem. The thing he always told me was, ‘Don’t drink.'”
It is known that Trump’s ‘red button to request a Coke’ disappeared when Biden took office after losing to then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
Multiple foreign media outlets reported in January 2021, ‘As soon as President Biden took office, he removed Trump’s cola button from his office desk.’
