11teamsports 1st State League – Clearly distributed roles before the third Waldviertel derby

The roles before the Waldviertel derby are clearly assigned. As clear as ever between ASV Schrems and SV Waidhofen. On the one hand, the Schremser team, who had to vacate first place after the 1-0 defeat in Rohrbach, but are only one point behind Korneuburg in second place in the table. On the other hand, the Waidhofen team, where pretty much everything that could go wrong has gone wrong since the start of the season. Eleven games, ten defeats, only one win. And that was achieved with a 3-0 win in the derby in Zwettl in the third round, where misfortune basically began with the injury of legionnaire Antonin Plichta.

This is exactly what Herbert Zimmel reminds us of. The Schremser sporting director doesn’t entirely trust peace: “Waidhofen is certainly top in terms of fighting. We shouldn’t underestimate them, but we won’t either.” He is also aware that anything other than victory would be a surprise: “We want to win, of course, and we will do everything we can not to give Waidhofen the resources, according to Zwettl to beat us too. For us it’s also about getting back on track.”

Best offense versus worst defense

Because just before the only home derby of the autumn season, Schrems had to play against SG Rohrbach/St. Veit suffered his second defeat of the season. A counterattack in injury time sealed the 0-1 defeat. “It’s obviously annoying when you concede the goal so late,” says Zimmel. Before that, the teams largely neutralized each other. Marvin Bio was missing from Schrems due to a cold, which is why the offensive had to be remodeled. Lukas Zeiler moved into the starting line-up, but played on the wing, Milan Jurdik was the solo striker.

The Waldviertel derby will also be a duel between the league’s best offense (27 goals) and the worst state league defense (33 goals conceded) – and offense (7). The Waidhofen team hasn’t scored in the opponent’s goal for 457 minutes – the last goal was scored by Vincent Hassel on September 9th in the 1-2 defeat in Scheiblingkirchen. The Waidhofen goal difference from the last five rounds is 0:18.

The situation in Waidhofen remains tense

The personnel situation also remains tense – for the time being no one has reported back from the extensive injured hospital. Fabian Newald is available again and should take on the role as a six, so that ex-Schremser Andreas Ringswirth can act more offensively again. In addition, there is now the component of a change of coach, after Edgar Eichler had to make way for Andreas Neuwirth on Monday. Nevertheless, SVW chairman Andreas Hanisch is clear: “We don’t need to fool ourselves. Schrems is the clear favorite, we are the clear outsiders. I’ve even heard of bets about whether Schrems will score more goals for us than the SKN Juniors…” The Schrems won this game 7-0.

SV Waidhofen

Since Schremser’s promotion back in 2019, there have been three draws and two ASV wins. The Waidhofen team has been waiting for a win against Schrems for 13 years. On August 27, 2010, they won 4-2 in front of 1,000 spectators on their way to the title in the 2nd Regional League West.
