112 news: torture container suspects detained longer • arrest on A27

Four suspects of a gang who had set up shipping containers in Wouwse Plantage as torture chambers will remain in custody until the substantive hearing of their case in January. The court in Amsterdam decided on this on Tuesday.

The torture containers were dismantled in June last year during a large-scale police operation. The police tracked down the warehouses in Rotterdam and Wouwse Plantage after cracking the crypto service EncroChat, so that detectives could read the messages from criminals among themselves.

The men are suspected of preparing several serious crimes, including kidnapping, extortion, aggravated assault and murder. In addition, the Public Prosecution Service suspects them of membership of a criminal organization. A number of the twelve suspects are also on trial for money laundering.

The four who remain in pre-trial detention are Robin van O., Dennis van D., William H. and Christopher Z. Main suspect Roger P. is detained in another case, a large cocaine case in which Robin van O. is also a suspect.

The court wants to hear the substance of the case from 26 January.
