19.00: Police arrest man for car burglary on Bornholmstraat in Stad
Officers interrogated the man in one of the police cars present and then took him to the station. A window of the car was broken in the burglary.
Bornholmstraat is not far from the Euroborg stadium, where the match between FC Groningen and Cambuur had just started at the time of the car break-in. It is not known whether the car belongs to an FC Groningen supporter.
7.20 pm: Community service for public violence after Heerenveen-Groningen last season
A 26-year-old man from the municipality of Emmen has been sentenced to 240 hours of community service for public violence against police officers and police horses after the sc Heerenveen-FC Groningen match on April 10, 2022. Of the 240 hours of community service, 100 hours are conditional. A suspended prison sentence was not considered necessary by the police judge. However, damage must be compensated to the agents.
According to the Northern Netherlands police, dozens of FC Groningen supporters sought confrontation with supporters of the home club after the lost match.
15.05: Hemp nursery in Winschoten rolled up, man (23) arrested
The police rolled up a cannabis nursery on the Otterlaan in Winschoten on Thursday afternoon. A 23-year-old man from Winschoten was arrested. The police received several reports of odor nuisance and decided to raid the house. 385 plants were found on the top floor. They have been removed and destroyed.
14.00: Scooter driver injured in collision City
A scooter rider was hit this afternoon in the Struisvogelstraat in Stad. The woman would not have been given priority, after which she was hit by a car. The victim was taken to a hospital for a check-up.
13.15: Police are looking for armed robber Veendam
The police are still looking for the man who tried to rob a gas station on Lloydsweg in Veendam on Wednesday evening.
The robber threatened the staff with a weapon. In the end, he ran off empty-handed. No one was injured in the robbery.
Police have spoken to witnesses and secured CCTV footage.
12.30: Man is injured in stabbing Surhuisterveen
A 21-year-old man from Assen was injured in a stabbing incident in Surhuisterveen on Wednesday evening. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. Police have arrested a 28-year-old suspect. He is still in custody for questioning.
Initially, the police mistakenly reported that the incident had taken place in Opende.
10.00: Delivery van flips over at exit Hoogezand
A delivery van overturned this morning on the roundabout at the bottom of the A7 exit at Hoogezand. The car hit a lamppost and came to rest on its side.
The driver escaped unhurt. The car blocks a large part of the roadway and will have to be removed by a salvage company.
9.00: Fire at City Farm Figurehead City
A fire broke out at the Stadsboerderij on the Koerspad in Stad this morning. According to a spokesman for the fire service, the fire started in a technical installation of the building.
The fire was extinguished within minutes. The fire service will ventilate the building. No one was injured in the fire.
The adjacent childcare center was evacuated for some time as a precaution. The shelter is now open again.
