18.15: Fire brigade sprays cat from tree in City
In the Moesstraat in the city of Groningen, the fire brigade sprayed a cat from a tree on Saturday evening. The animal was stuck in the tree and the cat could not be reached even with an aerial platform.

There was nothing left but to spray the beast loose. It worked. The cat is doing well.

– 16.30: Motorcyclist from Pekela (42) dies after collision with tractor in Gieten
On Saturday afternoon, a 42-year-old motorcyclist from the municipality of Pekela collided with a tractor and trailer on the Bonnerdijk near Gieten. Relief efforts were of no avail, De Pekelder died on the spot.

– 3 p.m.: Motorist creates cyclist in Nieuw-Buinen
A cyclist was injured on Saturday afternoon on the Zuiderdiep in Nieuw-Buinen after being kicked by a motorist. How that could have happened is being investigated.

It was the third time this week that a cyclist was kicked on the Zuiderdiep. The cyclist was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

At the Frieschepalen exit on the A7, a fire started in the lump of waste that was dumped there. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. The exits at Frieschepalen are still blocked because of the waste dumping. It is unknown how the fire started.

– 13.50: Wounded in stabbing in Herestraat, suspect arrested
One was injured in a stabbing in the Herestraat in the city of Groningen around a quarter to two on Saturday afternoon. Shortly after the incident, the police arrested a suspect in Gelkingestraat.

– 10.10: Stolen car collides with house in Zuidbroek, 33-year-old man arrested
Two men drove a stolen car into a house on WA Scholtenweg in Zuidbroek in the night from Friday to Saturday.

The men were chased by the police. He wanted to check them in Hoogezand, because they were winding along the road and because a rear light of the car was broken.

The driver did not respond to the police stop sign, but fled. He drove into a house in Zuidbroek. After a short chase, officers were able to detain one of the two men. It concerns a 33-year-old man from the municipality of Midden-Groningen.

No one was injured. The house was damaged, but residents were able to stay at home. The investigation into the second suspect is still ongoing.

A fire started on the balcony of a home on Asingastraat in Groningen on Saturday morning.

The residents first tried to extinguish the fire themselves, then the fire brigade was called in. “The job was done quickly,” said a spokesman for the fire service. It is unknown how the fire started.

A car and a tractor with slurry tank collided on Saturday morning on the Kielsterachterweg near Hoogezand.
