11.15: Police pursuit from Julianaplein ends in a meadow in Annen

A 24-year-old man from Emmen was briefly chased by the police on the A28 between Groningen and the Zuidlaren exit last night. A police spokesperson says that the man’s car was noticed by police officers at Julianaplein around 6 p.m. due to the high speed of the driver. The police gave the man a follow signal, but he ignored it. At high speed, the man took off via the A28 towards Assen, after which the suspect was out of sight and the police had to stop the pursuit.

Not much later, the police received a report of an accident between Annen and Zuidlaren, in which a car ended up next to the road and came to a stop in a meadow. “It turned out to be the same car there,” says the police spokesperson. The driver was injured and taken to a hospital. After a saliva test, the police assume that the man was under the influence of drugs, a blood test has yet to confirm this. The man did not have a valid driver’s license. No other road users were involved in the accident.
