11.30pm: Van on fire in the Beijum district

A van went up in flames on the Wibenaheerd in the Beijum district in the city of Groningen. An adjacent car also caught fire and was damaged.

The firefighters immediately intervened on the spot, but it was too late to save the van. Police are investigating whether the arson is the cause of the fire.

22.35 Auto collides with broken down bus

A car collided with a broken down van on the Friesestraatweg viaduct near Zuidhorn. Nobody was hurt. Both vehicles had to be towed. The road was closed for some time due to rescue work.

5:05 pm: The car overturns on the A7 slip road at Kolham

A car ran on its side in the driveway of the A7 near Kolham. The driver was checked by paramedics after the accident, but he didn’t have to go to the hospital. The firefighters and the police were also called to the rescue.

The ramp to Groningen is still closed due to the accident. The damaged vehicle is recovered.

It is not known how the car overturned.

17:00: Car fire in Eexterveenschekanaal

A van burned down on the Semsstraat near Eexterveenschekanaal due to an unknown cause. The driver found that smoke was emanating from the vehicle and was able to prevent it from getting worse by stopping his car immediately.

The fire brigade was called to put out the fire.

14:00: Fire in the school bathroom in Stad

A fire broke out in a toilet of the CSG Wessel Gansfort in Stad. According to the fire brigade, the fire broke out in a paper holder.

The building was evacuated, forcing students and staff to leave. Firefighters have since put out the fire and opened the windows of the building to ventilate the school.

It is not known how the fire started.

1:30 pm: conifer fire in Winschoten

At the Bovenburen in Winschoten the fire raged in a conifer hedge. A lot of smoke was released.

Teachers from a nearby school tried to put out the fire, but the rushing firefighters managed to get the job done. It is not known how the fire started.

12.35: Car accidents during police chase on the A7 near Marum

A car overturned during a police chase on the A7 near Marum. In the crashed vehicle were two people suspected of a burglary attempt in Zevenhuizen.

While searching for the authors, the agents on the A7 saw the car that matched the description. In the ensuing chase, the car crashed and rolled over. Both occupants were arrested. This was done by officers with unsheathed weapons, because it was suspected that a weapon was present in the car.

It is not known whether the two were injured in the accident.

12:30 pm: Agent attacked in Emmen, presumably by Groningers

A policeman on a motorcycle was threatened and attacked Sunday afternoon in Emmen by a group of dozens of people. Among them was probably Groninger, the police report. The officer sustained injuries to his back and hand.

The agent arrived at the scene around 4:00 pm after a report of a scooter nuisance on Huygensstraat in Emmen. Inspection of one of the drivers revealed that the license plate and license were missing.

The officer would then have been locked up by bystanders, who, among other things, would have shouted “take him”. The officer managed to disperse his attackers with pepper spray, before police colleagues came to his aid.

According to the police, people from different parts of the northern Netherlands were involved, probably also from Groningen. The scooter driver without a license and license plate managed to escape, other drivers were later checked by the police officers who rushed.

The wounded officer did not need further treatment. Police have reported the violent incident and are investigating the matter further.

11.30: Four suspects arrested after attacking Haren

One person was injured in an assault on Kerkstraat in Haren on Sunday evening. Three of Eelde’s men (23, 26 and 28) and a 25-year-old man from Paterswolde were arrested on the same evening, police said.

The incident took place in a street restaurant. Police were called around 8.45pm and shortly after arrested the suspects – who had escaped. All four are still in custody and are being interrogated.

It is not clear what the condition of the victim is. The age and place of residence are also unknown. The police are investigating further.

2.30: Extinguished a car fire in Winschoten

Firefighters put out a fire in a car on the Oostwolderweg between Winschoten and Finsterwolde. According to a 112 photographer present, the fire broke out in the dashboard of the car and the firefighters first had to do some demolition work to be able to extinguish it. The damaged car was removed by a salvage company.

0030: 17-year-old arrested for possession of firearms

A 17-year-old resident in the municipality of Westerkwartier was arrested for possession of a firearm. It happened on the Gedempte Zuiderdiep in the city of Groningen. According to a police spokesperson, the car in which the boy was sitting with two others was stopped during a check. When the officers saw the weapon, the three were held at gunpoint.

The 17-year-old was arrested and interrogated. An agent reports on Twitter that a firearm with the suspect was also found in March of this year.
