A fire broke out in a nature reserve on the Bandalaan in Eindhoven on Thursday night around half past three. Much of the park was destroyed by the fire. The fire brigade had arrived with two fire engines to fight the fire.
In the middle of the park is a monumental tree. This tree was also damaged by the fire. The trunk is blackened. The deck near the tree was also destroyed by the fire.
The tree, a plane tree, is known as the Spotted Southerner and is more than two hundred years old. In 2009 this tree became the first world tree in the Netherlands.
