23.30: Car in the water in the outlying area of Veendam
A motorist drove into the water just outside Veendam on Friday evening. That happened on the Vosseveld, on the east side of Veendam. The driver may have been unable to keep the vehicle on the road due to the slippery conditions. The occupant was able to leave the car independently and is now on the side. The emergency services will continue to take care of him or her.
22.15: Car against tree in Niekerk
A car crashed into a tree at the Doctor KL van Veenlaan in Niekerk on Friday evening. The vehicle suffered a major dent at the front and was taken away by a salvage company.
It is unclear what role the slipperiness played in the accident. As far as is known, the driver escaped unhurt.
21.00: Motorist runs off the road at Hoogezand
On the Kielster Achterweg (N385) near Hoogezand, a motorist left the road on Friday evening and ended up in a dry ditch. The driver may have lost control of the wheel due to the slipperiness. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The emergency services are now present and are assessing the damage.
20.30: Arrest after threat of violence with nitrous oxide bottle
A person who caused a nuisance with the use of laughing gas was arrested in the city of Groningen on Friday. Enforcers wanted to draw up an official report against the laughing gas user, but he took a fighting position and threatened to lash out with the laughing gas bottle, the Groningen enforcement team reports. A call from the enforcers to release the bottle did not help. The person was ‘brought under control’ and a short time later arrested by the police.
14.15: Fire in residence Oosterpoortbuurt Stad
A fire raged in a house on Van Sijsenstraat in the Oosterpoortbuurt in Groningen on Friday afternoon.
Because it was not clear whether anyone was still present in the house, the fire brigade called for reinforcements. In the end, no one turned out to be in the house.
The fire has now been extinguished.
13.35: Barn fire at the campsite in Opende
A fire broke out in a barn at De Watermolen campsite in Opende on Friday afternoon. A second fire truck was deployed to provide sufficient extinguishing water.
13.15: Sappemeerster (70) not killed by crime
70-year-old Fanny de Vries from Sappemeer did not die as a result of a crime. The police have closed the investigation.
10.30: No explosives but ammunition found in Woldendorp
The police and the Explosives Clearance Service Defense (EOD) found ammunition at a house on AE Gorterweg in Woldendorp on Thursday afternoon. At first, bystanders spoke of explosives. “The ammunition was discovered by accident and was not armed. In such cases, we routinely call the EOD for their expertise, “says a police spokesman. “We were there initially because of a medical report.”
The EOD has confiscated the ammunition and it is being destroyed.
10.25: Several arrests in Westerkwartier
During a raid on a home in Tolbert, soft drugs were found last Thursday. Two residents of Westerkwartier, aged 17 and 20, were then arrested.
A day later, a bag of soft drugs was seized in a home in Leek. A 16-year-old resident of Westerkwartier has to make a statement about this later.
Another day later, on Saturday, officers found the transfer of hard drugs at the ATM on the Oldebertweg in Tolbert. Two persons aged 17 and 18, both from the municipality of Westerkwartier, were arrested.
7.55: Motorist skids and ends up next to A28 at Eelde
Between Eelde and Haren, a motorist skidded as a result of the slippery road on Friday morning and ended up next to the carriageway. The accident causes delays.
The driver escaped unhurt.
7.50: Motorist collides with tree in Finsterwolde
On the Ekamperweg in Finsterwolde, a motorist left the road on Friday morning and collided with a tree. The accident was probably caused by slipperiness.
The driver was checked by paramedics. It is unknown if the person was taken to hospital.
6.55: Injuries in frontal collision on Drentse Mondenweg
On Drentse Mondenweg near 2e Exloërmond, two motorists collided head-on on Friday morning. Both drivers were injured.
Nothing is known about the seriousness of the injuries, but in addition to the fire brigade, three ambulances and the trauma helicopter also attended the scene.
How the accident happened is under investigation. The road is closed to all traffic in connection with the emergency services.
