Officers arrested an 18-year-old motorist from Roosendaal last night after a short chase. He may have had drugs in his pocket, police said this morning. An officer saw the suspect driving on Van Beethovenlaan around half past ten. He drove without lights.
When the officer made this clear to the driver, he did not respond. A stop sign that the agent then gave also did not have the desired effect. On the contrary, the young man accelerated. He then collided with another car on the Heilig Hartplein. The suspect got out and ran. On Marconistraat, the police officer, who had started the pursuit on foot, managed to grab him by the collar.
A bag of suspected drugs was found near the man’s car. A little further on were more such bags. These have been confiscated. The police are still investigating whether it is indeed drugs. The suspect was fined for ignoring a stop sign and for driving without a light. In addition, an official report has been drawn up against him for leaving an accident site. He is stuck.
