A 22-year-old man from the municipality of Alphen-Chaam was severely assaulted last Tuesday evening while celebrating carnival in Alphen. The victim was so injured that he had to be taken to hospital for treatment, a police spokesman said this afternoon.
The assault, which was only brought out by the police today, happened on Heuvelstraat in Alphen near Cultural Center Den Heuvel. The victim filed a report and made a statement.
To find out exactly what happened, the police are looking for witnesses who saw something more. The abuse is reminiscent of a similar event in Diessen, also on Carnival Tuesday. Here, a group of boys assaulted a 16-year-old boy. When asked whether there is also a group of perpetrators in Alphen, the police spokesman did not want to comment on Monday.
