11-year-old girl shot dead by 15-year-old boy

New York police have reportedly solved the murder of an 11-year-old girl who was shot and killed earlier this week in the Bronx. A 15-year-old boy was arrested yesterday.

The child was in the street on Monday around 5 p.m. when the young suspect riding a scooter fired at a 13-year-old teenager who was running away from him.

A stray bullet hit little Kyhara Tay in the abdomen, who died of her injuries during the night.

The 15-year-old was arrested by the NYPD without incident at a Bronx hotel on Friday. His mother and him had reserved a room there for the night, explained the chief investigator of the New York police, James Essig, in a press briefing.

The alleged shooter has “put an end to the life of a completely innocent and completely uninvolved 11-year-old girl,” police commissioner Keechant Sewell added.

The shooting comes as New York grapples with an upsurge in gun violence that affects even the youngest. In January, an 11-month-old baby was shot in the face. The little one was with her mother in a car parked on a street in the Bronx.
