The statement by the US State Department and the UN Secretary-General came as local media and residents said troops arrested 11 people from the village of Dontaw in the Sagaing region following a mine and bomb attack on a military convoy the day before.
“We are outraged by credible and sickening reports that the Burmese military tied up 11 villagers — including children — in northwestern Burma and burned them alive,” US State Department spokesman Ned Price said Thursday, using the old name. the country, as reported by FLY, Friday (10/12/2021).
Meanwhile a spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday he was deeply concerned by reports of the gruesome killing of 11 people who were reportedly shot and burned alive by the military.
“Credible reports indicate that five children were among those killed,” he said.

Speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, a resident said they saw bodies lying with their hands tied, still smoking after troops left the village.
A video posted on social media was meant to show several charred bodies lying on the ground.
“It hurts us all. They don’t even look like humans,” says one voice in the clip which is meant to show the body.
