Project ideas submitted by 11 residents will be implemented in the vicinity of Riga, such a decision was made today by the tender commission for the implementation of ideas for the Riga participation budget project.
In total, 500,000 euros will be distributed to the projects. 31,128 euros will be allocated to the project of Vecāķu society “Vecāķu walking walk”, Mārča Ruiķis project “Āgenskalns concrete pool skate park” 47 717 euros, but to the project of Sarkandaugava development society “Top light in Sarkandaugava park!” allocated EUR 49 244.
Čiekurkalns Development Association project “Let’s give the sun back to Saulkrastu Street!” 48,799 euros have been allocated, 49,141 euros have been allocated to the Bukultu Neighborhood Association for the creation of the Bukulti Walking Trail, 4581 euros have been allocated for the project “BOLDERĀ.JA” submitted by Igor Sokolov, Bieriņi Neighborhood Development Association project Association “Brasa” project “Brasa – a friendly place for big and small children” – 49 454 euros.
Another 34,299 euros were allocated to the project “Heritage of Zvirgzdu Island: Rebirth of the Small Coast” submitted by Una Bērziņa-Cherenkova, 37,559 euros – to Egils Alka’s project “Light Road”, and 49,751 euros – to the project “City Dog Square” of the Association “Dog with a Mission”.
This year, the funding available in the competition allows to implement a total of 12 citizens’ initiatives, but the commission will decide separately on the possibilities to implement the project “Sports Park” Vāverīte “”, which ranked 12th in the population vote with 1131 votes.
After approving the results of the tender, the supported projects were handed over for implementation to the relevant Riga City Council institutions – the Housing and Environment Department, SIA “Rīgas gaisma”, the Territorial Improvement Department and the Riga City Council Traffic Department.
Residents had until 31 May to submit their ideas to the competition. This year, for the first time, project applications could be submitted not only by non-governmental organizations, associations or foundations that represent the interests of Riga neighborhoods, but also by natural persons from the age of 16.
A total of 41 project applications were submitted, the compliance of which with the tender regulations and the possibilities to implement them in two rounds were assessed by the tender commission, directing 22 projects for the vote of the population.
The aim of the competition is to allow residents to directly decide on the use of part of the city budget and to improve the environment near their place of residence, to promote residents’ involvement in the development of their neighborhoods, as well as to gain valuable feedback on necessary urban improvements.
The competition for the implementation of ideas for participatory budget projects has been organized by the Riga City Council since 2019, a total of 23 projects submitted by residents have been supported during the three years of the competition.
