Precisely because Frostpunk was once a really tough game for a change, I was able to enjoy it for a long time. In the beginning it was really trying things, failing like crazy, starting over and going through the cycle again.
Now that many retry’s have gone on, I’ve got the hang of it.
Few tips without spoiling
– Cold and lack of food not only cause sick / dying people but also cause them to come up with annoying questions like “give us “x” houses within “x” days or else..”. These events can really mess up your city if they come along at an unlucky time.
Priority 1 is therefore always sufficient heat and food.
– Heat management, During the day most workers are at work and most children are at school (if you have one). Look in the city where people are walking and make sure the heating is on. You can turn off the heating where there are no people. Conversely, in the evening the heating in the workplace does not have to be on when there are no people around.
– Exploration, start early and also invest in an extra scout crew and extra speed. Exploring is very rewarding, especially the power cores and extra people are worth it. If you find extra people keep in mind that many of them can / will be sick and that your capacity to treat these people is sufficient. If you are overrun by sick people who cannot treat you in time, then it is reasonably done.
– Walking routes, this is a pretty important one that I overlooked in the beginning. People walk to and from work. If they are exposed to high cold while walking, they can get sick during the ride. With smart construction you can prevent too many long routes through the cold, otherwise I would at least put a heater on the lowest setting on the coldest part. This really saves a lot of sick people
