The Pharmaceutical Authority of Egypt announced that they are pumping additional quantities of important pharmaceutical preparations, especially for insulin medications, treatments for heart disease, gastritis, tumors, and medicines ICSI.
The authority said in a statement that this comes within the framework of the government’s commitment to monitor the medicine market and the ongoing efforts of the Medicines Authority of Egypt to ensure the availability of essential medicines in the market local.
The authority explained that these preparations include varieties from several therapeutic groups, with ongoing follow-up work to ensure their continued availability, indicating that updates related to all important preparations are divided one by one.
According to the circular, the authority released 1.2 million packages of “Mixtard 30,” insulin for the treatment of diabetes, as well as Egyptian insulin, amounting to more than 860 thousand packages , enough for about two and a half months.
The Authority also announced that a number of antibiotic medicines were brought in, including Augmentin and Pensitard, enough to last 4.7 months for the first drug, and 8.5 months for the second drug .
The Authority also announced the launch of 6 medicines used in ICSI operations.
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, head of Egypt’s Medicines Authority, said earlier that the authority had found a shortage of 81 “most urgent” preparations.
Al-Ghamrawi pointed out, at a press conference a few days ago, that between 700 and 1,000 phone calls were received every day, and after analyzing these calls, only 81 of the most prepared find a crisis in the drug shortage.
He explained that there are more than 15,000 types registered with the Medicines Authority, and that the defects within them are limited.
