10th Thuringian Democracy Prize: Celebrating Commitment to Democracy and Open-mindedness in Thuringia

The Thuringian State Program for Democracy, Tolerance and Cosmopolitanism is awarding the 10th Thuringian Democracy Prize. The prize honors the commitment of local people who put a great deal of personal effort into creating an open-minded and diverse society and sees itself as a contribution to the public appreciation and recognition of people, associations and initiatives that actively promote democratic coexistence and thereby create new ones Develop and implement ideas.

Thuringia’s Minister for Education, Youth and Sport, Helmut Holter:“The state program for democracy, tolerance and cosmopolitanism is our important civil society network for preserving the democratic foundations of our community and combating threats to democracy. Our democracy thrives on many committed democrats throughout Thuringia. With the Democracy Prize, the state program recognizes precisely this civil society commitment to open, tolerant and colorful coexistence in Thuringia.”

The Thuringian Democracy Prize will be awarded for the tenth time in the 2023/2024 annual cycle. Since 2013, it has been awarded to innovative projects or to individuals who have made a special contribution to a democratic and open everyday culture with their diverse commitment.

Initiatives, clubs and associations, regional projects and individuals can be honored. You can be nominated for the Democracy Prize or apply yourself. The award includes three main prizes and four recognition prizes. The main prizes are worth 3,000 euros, 2,000 euros and 1,000 euros, respectively, and the four recognition prizes are worth 500 euros each. The winners are selected by a jury made up of representatives from Thuringian citizens’ associations, media, science, business, social associations and churches as well as young people. Education Minister Helmut Holter chairs the jury. The award ceremony will take place in May 2024 in Erfurt.

Proposals and applications can be submitted online on the homepage of the state program for democracy, tolerance and cosmopolitanism.

The application deadline is November 15, 2023.
