10th Festival of Young Talents, Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main, press release

In May, the Festival of Young Talents (FDJT) celebrates an anniversary: for the 10th time, the festival, under the auspices of the Offenbach University of Design (HfG) brings together artistic disciplines from various institutions and promotes multidisciplinary formats. The focus is on cross-university projects that are interdisciplinary, experimental or performative. The aim of the FDJT is to strengthen cooperation between students from various design disciplines at regional universities and to support the creation of new experimental works.

This year, after 2016 and 2018, the host is again the Frankfurter Kunstverein. A novelty for young artists, which the institutional presentation helps to achieve national visibility – this time with an extended duration of ten days. The Open House of Cultures, Bockenheim University Campus, will also make its ballroom available for three performances on May 10th and 15th. This 10th edition is a cooperation between the Offenbach University of Art and Design, the Mainz University of Art and Design, the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, the Frankfurt Städelschule, the Gießen Institute for Applied Theater Studies and the courses in Dramaturgy and Curatorial Studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt.

A jury selected 19 projects for realization. In performances and installations, the works in the 2022 exhibition deal in particular with queer-feminist issues and physical and mental states of the in-between. Threshold areas between gender and cultural identities are addressed as well as motives of community and the crisis as a transition to a collective potential.

Festival of Young Talents
Since it was founded by the Rhein-Main Art Promotion Association in 2000, the Festival of Young Talents (FDJT) has been a key driver for young artists in the region to network between the cities and disciplines. Over the years, its importance for the entire Rhine-Main area has increased significantly. The festival of young talents focuses on cross-university projects that are interdisciplinary, experimental or performative. Carrying the team spirit beyond the immediate environment of one’s own university is what makes the festival so dynamic, and especially today, the particular topicality and relevance of collective projects in art, but also of cultural and social work in general, speaks for the promotion of cooperation between young people artists. Cooperation and improvisation are important driving forces for the festival – as an invitation not only to reproduce but to create, beyond recipe and viewing habits.
