100,000 producers protected by agricultural insurance thanks to Socodevi.

100,000 producers are protected by agricultural insurance in the south. The news was announced during the launch of the RESILIENCE program in Kolda, this Tuesday, June 21, 2022, by Socodevi.

This project aims to improve the empowerment of rural women in Casamance. Thus, this project deploys a financial education offer and integration of women with partners in rural areas for access to agricultural and financial products. And to consolidate the program, agricultural insurance has been integrated into this offer of products and services in order to provide a solution for managing natural and climatic risks.

For Véronique Tine, beneficiary of the project (GIE APROVAC de Tamba), “Socodevi trained us on access to financing and agricultural insurance. We who are active in bananas, we can only welcome this initiative. But our problem remains access to land and financing, the procedures for which are usually cumbersome. This is why, she insists, “we want these procedures to be lightened by the program. However, it must be recognized that the program has modernized our sector since the empowerment of women has become a reality today…”

Agricultural insurance secures producers in the event of risk or loss of their rainy season due to low rainfall. Thus, they will be able to have compensation through reimbursement thanks to agricultural insurance. It should be remembered that Socodevi is active in honey, peanuts, bananas and corn. And she puts the husband and wife at the heart of her project so that they jointly take ownership of the project to better fight against poverty and food insecurity.

François Diam, international program director at Socodevi: “For us, it is important to work directly with farmers on their family business via the “Socodevi field schools”. We bend to the local culture to achieve results. That’s why we don’t come up with new concepts. And the association or cooperative plays an important role in this line. In this sense, we try to transmit these values while thinking of the long term. »

All the farmers’ organizations recognized the success model of the program like the FEPROBA of the Anambé basin. Moreover, Oumar Ba, president of FEPROBA, estimates that with the “field school” program of Socodevi, all the 15 tons of rice presented at FIARA 2022 have been sold.

In short, the program contributes to improving the living conditions of disadvantaged families by supporting the creation and strengthening of inclusive cooperative enterprises…
