100 years on the Bremen bowl basket: Kalbhenn celebrates its anniversary

Bremen – It is one of the traditional addresses in downtown Bremen. A house that has reinvented itself again and again without losing its unmistakable character – you have always found a taste for enjoyment here. And now the Bremen wine and spirits store Julius Kalbhenn in a bowl basket is 100 years old. As the third generation owner, Tim Kalbhenn runs the business today.

When his grandfather Julius saw the chance to start his own business a few years after the end of the First World War self-employed the trained chemist seized it. From the beginning, the parent company was with his Office Charme on the bowl basket. In the first decades, however, it was not about wine, gin & Co .; instead coined Tobacco products the offer. Especially Julius Kalbhenn Specialties had to offer. It became almost legendary „Julika“, which Kalbhenn rolled by hand for his customers – a cigar that bore the chef’s name in abbreviated form. Because of the American tobacco trade embargo, im second World War, in whose bombing nights the business was spared from destruction, for the first time spirits the way into the assortment. Personal contact with top winemakers

The spirits stayed in the program. In the early 1960s, however, the founder’s health was so badly damaged that his son Jürgen Kalbhenn 1964 had to take the helm in hand. He relied on direct Contact to winemakers and distilleries, to top international wineries from Bordeaux to overseas.
