Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said the government had designed a strategy for handling Covid-19 in the worst case scenario, the addition of cases is up to 100 thousand cases per day.
However, said Luhut, the government did not expect Indonesia to experience the worst case scenario. It is known, daily positive cases of Covid-19 broke a record reaching 54,517 people per day yesterday.
“We don’t expect it to reach 100 thousand, but even that we have planned now if it happens there,” Luhut said at an online press conference on the Youtube channel of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, Thursday (15/7).
Luhut said the government would run a scenario of 60,000 cases a day in the near future. According to him, this condition has been taken into account by the government from the start.
The government is preparing hospitals to deal with a surge in the number of patients. The government asked each hospital to allocate 40 percent of its beds for Covid-19 patients.
In addition, the government has converted a number of buildings, such as flats, into emergency hospitals. The government will also use all TNI-Polri health facilities to treat Covid-19 patients.
Luhut said the government had ordered the TNI-Polri to establish a field hospital. The government also asked government buildings to be used as isolation centers.
“The president ordered all ministries/agencies to have their own isolation places (for symptomatic patients) that are mild so that they do not burden the center anymore,” he said.
Previously, Indonesia recorded a record addition of daily Covid-19 cases in recent weeks. Yesterday, Wednesday (14/7), Indonesia reported 54,517 positive cases of Covid-19.
Until yesterday, the total positive cases of Covid-19 reached 2,615,529 people. Of that number, 68,219 people died, 2,139,601 recovered, and 443,473 people are still under treatment or self-isolation.
