100 km / h with the electric scooter – Südtirol News

Moncalieri – The officers of the local police in the small Piedmontese town of Moncalieri had to deal with a particularly blatant violation of the traffic regulations.

The handlebars of an incredibly fast electric scooter went online for the police. The 40-year-old apparently found nothing by whizzing through the streets of Moncalieri at around 100 kilometers per hour on his expensive scooter, which he bought on the Internet. The officers did not allow themselves to be softened by the man’s excuses. While the 40-year-old local was fined 1,000 euros, the “illegal” electric scooter, which ironically, according to the man, had also cost 1,000 euros, was confiscated by the officials.

Moncalieri Local Police

The officers of the local police in the small Piedmontese town of Moncalieri had already received indications of an allegedly “electric scooter that scooted very quickly through the city”. When their path crossed that of the super-fast electric scooter during one of their inspection trips through the city, they were amazed. The driver of the fast electric scooter – a 40-year-old man from Moncalieri – whizzed through the city with his vehicle at no less than 100 kilometers per hour. The city police officers stopped the man immediately.

During the questioning by the officials it came out that the man had bought the electric scooter for around 1,000 euros on the Internet. However, the 40-year-old hadn’t considered the special technical properties of the two-kilowatt scooter. In fact, electric scooters of this type do not meet the legal norm. Due to their power and top speed, they could be compared to a small motorcycle despite their low weight. Therefore, the electric scooter would have to be approved by the Office for Motorization and provided with an identification board. The 2,000 watt electric scooter differs in every respect from its smaller, at most 20 kilometers per hour fast and 250 to 500 watt “brothers”.

“I paid him dearly. You can’t just take it away from me, ”said the 40-year-old local who tried to soften the officials with these words. But the city policemen had no mercy. While the man from Moncalieri was fined 1,000 euros for various violations of the road traffic regulations and because of the lack of insurance and registration and had to travel home by taxi, the “illegal” electric scooter, which ironically, according to the man, was also 1,000 Euros had been confiscated from the officials.

Even if this is particularly blatant, the case of the super-fast scooter from Monacalieri is by no means an isolated case. It wasn’t until the end of September that the video of an electric scooter that had been on the open road near Verona in the middle of the night at 80 kilometers an hour and even overtook a car caused a sensation.

Upon request, law enforcement experts confirm that traffic hooligans would not shy away from hitting the streets unsafe with their hot-haired or online high-performance electric scooters that reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. As in the case of other traffic sins, only strict controls combined with hefty fines and the confiscation of illegal scooters can create.
