100 kilos more and 100 hp less for Alpine!

(Motorsport-Total.com) – Toyota’s only competitor for overall victory at the WEC prelude in Spa-Francorchamps in 2021, the Alpine-LMP1, is being slowed down properly! This can be seen from the BoP table that the host ACO published a few days before the start of the season in the World Endurance Championship.

Alpine has one this season with the Rebellion R-13 designed by Oreca “grandfathered” LMP1 in the hypercar class and must therefore be slowed down accordingly in order to get into the same performance window as the Toyota LMH. But the numbers are tough.

Compared to previous seasons, Alpine has to add more than 100 kilograms of weight to its vehicle! In the past two seasons 2018/19 and 2019/20, the vehicle had a minimum weight of 824 kilograms at the start, this time it’s 930 kilograms. In addition, the Alpine has to start with a Le Mans Aerokit. However, this is not uncommon for spa.

But that’s not all, because the performance of the Gibson V8 vacuum cleaner is also significantly reduced. The maximum power of the engine must not exceed 600 hp. This means that the engine produces around 100 hp less than in the previous season.

For comparison: A minimum weight of 1,040 kilograms and a total system output of 700 hp were specified as parameters for the new hypercar class in which Toyota and probably Glickenhaus will start from Portimao.

The Corvette C8.R, which will start in Spa in the GTE-Pro category, also gets a new BoP classification. Compared to last WEC appearance in February 2020 in Austin the Corvette is allowed to unload five kilograms. In addition, the air restrictor is enlarged from 41.3 to 43.5 millimeters.

This is how the rulers react to the miserable performance of the Corvette in Austin. In qualifying, you lost 2.2 seconds on pole time as seventh and last, while the penultimate was 1.7 seconds short of a whopping 1.7 seconds. The race ended three laps behind the class winner, the Aston Martin # 95 (Sörensen / Thiim), in sixth place.
