100 infected after restaurant outbreak

More than 100 people have now been confirmed infected in connection with the outbreak, Ålesund municipality states in a press release.

The municipality describes the outbreak as a “mass infection event”.

Last week, the municipality closed the restaurant for one week after violating the infection control rules. The company is also reported to the police.

– We have never had so many infected before in Ålesund. These are mainly transmission routes that originate from Toldboden, said mayor Eva Vinje Aurdal in connection with the review.

– Very sorry

A video, which NRK has gained access to, shows guests hugging and dancing at the restaurant.

“We at Toldboden are very sorry for the strain we have placed on our guests in connection with the outbreak this weekend. This was an experience we would have liked to have been without. It should be safe to be guests with us. We will now look at how we can ensure even better infection control and routines so that this does not happen again. We have established contact with Ålesund municipality, to review our infection control measures and internal routines, to find out what went wrong this weekend “, the restaurant writes on its website.

The company explains that they had arranged for distance by placing tables and chairs apart, but that it was a challenge that guests moved on tables and chairs.

New measures

“Several times our personnel had to move chairs and tables back to where they were supposed to stand. We have a joint responsibility to follow the infection control rules, and we are completely dependent on good cooperation with the guests so that we can achieve this “, writes Toldboden.

Ålesund, Sula and Giske recently introduced strict corona measures. Among other things, cultural and entertainment venues had to close, while events and drinking were banned. The measures apply until 10 May.

The situation was then described as “disturbing”.
