100 days before the presidential election, the Supreme Election Commission (CEC) publishes a sample ballot. In it, voters will find an innovation that has not been seen before.

“Preparations for the May 12 Presidential elections are underway at full capacity: we are currently working on forming municipal election commissions, which will begin their work soon, improving the functionality of CEC information systems, preparing election documents for publication and making sure that polling stations are convenient for all groups of voters. The preparation of the sample ballot form is also one of the many important tasks,” commented CEC Chairperson Lina Petronienė on the preparation for the upcoming head of state elections.

According to her, “the novelty of this election is that, unlike before, political parties can nominate presidential candidates, so we will indicate not only the name and surname of the presidential candidate on the ballot, but also an attachment – he nominated himself or was nominated by a political party “.

According to Lina Petronienė, “2024 The format and color of the election ballot for the President of the Republic will be the same as in this example, and to make it more interesting for voters to read, we used artificial intelligence, which created fun names of candidates and names of political organizations that do not have any associations with future candidates. One month before the election, we will replace them with the names of officially registered presidential candidates and indicate who nominated them. The voters who came to the polls will receive those ballots.”

Until February 2, the CEC has registered 9 political campaign participants who have already officially started their political campaign.

The CEC will accept the registration documents of political campaign participants until February 19. (inclusive). Later, the acceptance of application documents will begin, until which candidates will have to pay an election deposit of 8,995 euros from their personal account.

After submitting declaration documents, future candidates will have to collect 20,000 signatures from voters who support them. After checking the declaration documents, collected voters’ signatures and finding that the candidates meet the requirements set out in the Election Code, the CEC will officially register the candidates to participate in the elections.

The election of the President of the Republic will be held on May 12. On the same day, a referendum on the amendment of Article 12 of the Constitution (retention of citizenship) will also be held.
