$100 bill printed on one side only

A printed $100 bill on one side has been a trend in the last few hours in Cuba. The image has gone viral on social media.

The user Felix Yasser Castillo Pelayo was the first to share it in a Facebook story: “when the state even robs you at the ATM,” he posted.

The digital creator Edmundo Dantés Junior, with more than 31,000 followers, also made a publication on the subject, which generated more than 150 comments.

Although many thought it was a joke, some Cubans assured that it is not a novelty.

Joaquín Arbelo wrote: “it’s not fucking, in Santiago it has happened and there are people who have taken up to ten papers with the metal stamp in the middle only.”

As expected, many users joked about the situation. “Economy mode. They should also reduce paper, totally, if for the value it has”; “That’s all we needed, that the characters on the back of the ticket also have sponsorship” or “new problem unlocked, let’s go for more”, were some of the comments received.

Others even went so far as to point to the collectible value of the single-sided note. Antonio Planas Ampudia stated:

“That bill has more value than its own denomination… Due to having that printing error, it has a collectible value in some numismatic sectors…Although this error is seen quite often, it still has value”.

BANKNOTES IN CUBA

Not a few users questioned how Cuban banks would react to receiving bills like these.

Last April, the Central Bank of Cuba reported on the issuance of a new 100 Cuban peso bill, which retained the main characteristics of previous issues.

Some of the security measures it contains are:

  • front and back main motifs,
  • BCC logo,
  • the signature of the current Minister President of the BCC, with his legend and the year, which appear printed in magenta.
