100 apartments evacuated after the fire in the Breda car park

About 100 apartments were evacuated on Wednesday evening following a fire in the garage under an apartment complex on Monseigneur Zwijsenstraat in Breda. The fire is under control, all houses are checked for carbon monoxide. Residents are accommodated as needed.

Firefighters speak of a “very large fire”, nine cars were on fire. The fire broke out around a quarter past eight. Several firefighters were called to put out the fire. A lot of police have also been exposed and some roads in the area have been closed for a long time.

It is not yet clear how the fire started. Most of the residents have their own place where they can go, for those who do not, a shelter is organized. Firefighters predicted around 10pm that residents would be able to go home during the night.

Hospital
The security region has warned local residents to stay away from smoking. “Stay out of the smoke and close windows and doors in case of disturbance and turn off the ventilation,” firefighters said.

Nine people complain because they inhaled smoke, six of them had to go to hospital.

Previous fire
The fire was under control by around 10:30. The firefighters have been busy ventilating the premises for some time. There is also post-extinguishing in the garage.

Four days ago, a fire broke out in the same underground parking lot.
