10 years behind bars – a penalty for driving a stolen rental car – Road and law – Car

On the weekend evening, several police crews received a call to Ilguciems, where the “CityBee” car was driven in blue by minors. Information received from the rental company that the car had started to move unauthorized, performed aggressive maneuvers, may have been stolen and that minors were present was a sufficient reason to start searching for the car. Because the company was able to provide information on where the car is located, it did not take long to trace. However, when they saw the blue light of the police bus, the drivers fled and had to search the courtyards of the house.

Several minors who explained that they were scared were caught by the police quite quickly. As several police crews were sent to the scene, law enforcement officers met and inspected thirteen young people in the nearby streets. Some of them had to go home with the stewards after these talks because they had not yet reached the age of 16 and after 22 were on the street unaccompanied by parents or their substitutes. Two inspection cases have also been opened against two minors under the age of 14 at the time of administrative responsibility.

Being on the street after dozens in the evening though is just a trifle against the background of other violations. As the program “Degpunkta” found out in the State Police, in addition to the violations recorded by the traffic police, criminal proceedings have already been initiated for this trip.

It turns out that in this case, young people did not come to the rental car with fraud or using other people’s data as usual, but stole it.

In the circumstances that have not been clarified yet, the car keys have become available to the driver, and the trip by vehicle has not been registered in the rental system. The incident is currently under investigation, but if it can be proven that the car was stolen, the culprit is threatened with up to ten years behind bars.
