PSV – 1987/88
It took 15 years for another Dutch team to settle in the final of the tournament after Ajax won three consecutive editions. It was in the 1987/88 campaign when the PSV Eindhoven managed to sneak into the grand final to be held at the Neckarstadion in Stuttgartwhere they beat Benfica in a penalty shootout to become champion.
Red Star – 1990/91
The 90s began with a big surprise in the UEFA tournament, because in the midst of the political conflict that Yugoslavia was going through, the team from the capital (Belgrade) was able to reach the final. Grasshopper, Rangers, Dinamo Dresden and Bayern Munich were the victims of the Red Star, which beat Olympique Marseille on penalties to achieve one of the greatest feats in football history.
Olympique Marseille – 1992/93
Almost four decades after its creation, the organizers of the European Cup decided to change the format and name of the competition.
