HOOTEN AND THE LADY (1 season, 2016)
The charm of “Hooten and the Lady” lies in the shamelessness with which the series copes with the disgrace of the adventure films of the 80s. In other words: the British adventure series is so trashy that it is good again exuberant, realism is not an issue right from the start, the plots are simple, but this self-deprecating exaggeration is simply fun, at least when you watch “Indiana Jones” and films like “AChasing the green diamond“(1984).
Ulysses Hooten (Michael Landes) is a lanky American who makes his living hunting for lucrative treasures. The British lady is the atypical aristocrat Alexandra Lindo-Parker (Ophelia Lovibond), a curator of the British Museum with a penchant for outdoor adventure. In fact, the two actors manage to create a certain crackle between the two main characters, which contributes significantly to the entertainment value of the series. “Hooten and the Lady” was discontinued after a season: somehow understandable, but also a bit of a shame!
