Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that almost everyone has experienced it headache. Headache can be defined as pain in various areas of the head with a variety of causes, duration and intensity of the pain.
There are so many types of headaches. However, as reported Medicine Net, The International Headache Society has released a classification of headaches in 2013. There are three classifications namely, primary headache, secondary headache and cranial neuralgiafacial pain and other headaches.
Each classification has several types of headaches. However, there are types of headaches that most often occur as follows.
1.Tension headaches (tension headache)
If you have a painful sensation all over your head, without a throbbing, you may have a tension headache. Other symptoms can include pain or sensitivity around the neck, forehead, scalp and shoulder muscles. Quoted from Healthline, anyone can experience tension headaches and these headaches are often triggered by stress.
2.Cluster headaches (cluster headache)
This type of headache is considered the most severe headache. Quoted from WebMD, cluster headaches make you experience pain such as a burning or stabbing sensation in the back as well as around the eyes.
Even the eyelids droop, the eyes turn red, the pupils shrink until they burst into tears.
This pain is like a constant throbbing. Cluster headaches generally don’t keep people sitting still.
Why is it called a ‘cluster’?
These headaches occur in groups. You may feel pain 1-3 times a day during the cluster period, about 2 weeks to 3 months.
Each headache attack can last 15 minutes to 3 hours.
3.Migraine (migrain headache)
Migraine is described as a throbbing pain. Migraines can last from 4 hours to 3 days, usually occurring 1-4 times a month.
Along with throbbing pain in the head, other symptoms develop such as sensitivity to light, sound or smell, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
Children can also be said to have migraines with the characteristics of a pale face, dizziness, blurred vision, fever and stomach pain.
A small number of migraines in children can include digestive problems such as vomiting.
4.Allergy or sinus headaches (allergy or sinus headache)
Sinus headaches, in which you will feel a deep, persistent pain in your cheekbones, forehead, or bridge of your nose.
This type of headache often occurs when you have sinus inflammation.
Apart from headaches, there are other symptoms that occur at the same time, such as runny nose, full ears, fever, and swollen face.
The discharge on the nose will turn yellow or green as a sign of a sinus infection. Unlike cluster headaches or migraines, the nasal discharge will be clear in color.
5.Hormone headaches (hormone headache)
You can experience headaches during menstruation, pregnancy and menopause, also known as hormone headaches.
Hormonal headaches are caused by changes in hormone activity.
Hormonal changes can also occur due to consumption of birth control pills and hormone therapy. If the headache occurs 2 days before menstruation or the first 3 days after menstruation, this is called menstrual migraine.
