10 summer highlights for a city trip in New York

Summer is one of the best times of the year to discover New York City. With a selection of the best activities to do in the city, from the most beautiful parks and beaches to the hippest rooftop bars and art collections. 1. Art on the Roof of Metropolitan Museum of Art
Like every summer, there are again this year exhibitions in the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. This Rooftop Garden is located on top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which is located right next to Central Park in Manhattan. This season you can visit Huma Bhabha’s exhibition We Come in Peace until October. The sculptures of this Pakistani artist focus on colonialism and war, and tell about the uncertainty of life.

6. New: Pier 17 & Musicals

8. All over the city: free exhibitions
This summer, the Public Art Fund is presenting several must-see exhibitions throughout the city. Things to do include Yinka Shonibare’s Wind Sculpture (on display through October 15) at Doris C. Freedman Plaza in Central Park, Anselm Kiefer’s Uraeus on display at Rockefeller Center’s Channel Garden through July 22, and the Hot Dog Bus by Erwin Wurm (June 9-August 26) in Brooklyn Bridge Park. 9. Restaurant & (Off) Broadway Weeks
It is already the 26th year of the first and largest dinner program of its kind. NYC & Company’s NYC Restaurant Week returns this summer with three weeks of fixed low-price dinners at more than 350 restaurants. In addition, this summer, NYC & Company will host NYC Broadway Week (tickets on sale from August 15, performances run September 3-16) and NYC Off-Broadway Week (tickets on sale from September 10, performances run from September 24 to October 7) . 10. US Open
And last but not least, the US Open, the largest tennis tournament in the country, is back this year at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadow, Queens. The tournament starts on August 27 and will last until September 9.
