“Thank God we didn’t get on that plane,” said one of them.
A total of 10 passengers missed the flight that crashed with 61 people on board in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on Friday. None of them managed to board, not because they were late or did not buy their tickets on time, but because they chose the wrong airline. points out the local portal G1.
One of those passengers, Felipe, told the media that many believed it would be Latam the one in charge of the connection that would take them from Cascavel airport, in the state of Paraná, to Guarulhos, in Sao Paulo. And when they realized that it was actually the Voepass airline, it was already too late.
Felipe says that arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare and approached the Latam counter, but it was closed. After waiting long enough and not getting any information, he decided to approach the Voepass employees, who gave him the bad news. “They told me: ‘Boy, you can’t get on that plane because the boarding time has passed.’ I even put a little pressure on: ‘Young man, put me on that plane, I have to go.’ Then they told me: ‘There’s no way, all I can do is change your ticket reservation,'” he said.
After the news of the accident broke, Felipe said he felt extremely emotional. “Thank God we didn’t get on that plane,” he said.
The aircraft, a turboprop model ATR-72-500, crashed in a residential area of the city of Vinhedo, in the interior of the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. The accident occurred at 13:25 (local time) and there were no survivors. According to Voepass, 57 passengers and four crew members died. It had originally been reported that there were 58 passengers.
