Floods and landslides in Bosnia and Herzegovina have killed at least 18 people and injured dozens in recent days. Around ten people are believed to be missing after the floods, officials said.
It has already been reported that heavy rains in Bosnia and Herzegovina overnight on Friday caused floods that washed away roads and collapsed bridges. Houses, gardens and cars were flooded. In the center of the country, the flood cut off several towns from the outside world.
In the town of Jablanica, southern Bosnia, an entire village was almost buried by a landslide of earth and rocks from a nearby mountain. Local residents told reporters that they heard a deafening sound and saw houses disappearing before their eyes. Most of the people who are considered missing in the natural disaster are from this town.
Rescue teams from neighboring and European Union (EU) countries arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina today.
Authorities said rescuers from Croatia had already arrived, but a team from Serbia was expected in the afternoon, followed by a team from Slovenia with dogs. Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Turkey have also offered help.
Municipal elections are taking place in Bosnia today, which have been postponed in areas affected by floods.
